Chapter 337

After completing the onboarding process with HR, Sophia Montgomery was escorted to the architectural design department. The moment she stepped in, she noticed two women whispering while glancing her way.

Their gossipy smiles made her tense.

Sophia lowered her gaze slightly.

The department head assigned her a workstation. Just as she settled in, a young woman burst into the office.

"Sophia Montgomery? Who's Sophia Montgomery?" the girl called out loudly.

Sophia stood. "That's me. Can I help you?"

She didn’t recognize this girl. She had just come from HR, and this girl clearly wasn’t from this department. So how did she know her name?

Sophia was puzzled.

She had always been reserved, rarely initiating conversations. When others approached her first, she often felt uneasy.

The girl beamed. "Hi! I'm Sophia Carter. My cousin asked me to look out for you since it's your first day."

Sophia Carter?

The surname clicked instantly—her cousin must be Nathan Carter.

Nathan already knew she was working here?

Sophia blinked. "Your cousin is…?"

"Nathan!" Sophia Carter grinned. "He said you're a close friend, so he wanted me to show you around. Don’t worry, I’ve been here for years. Need directions to the cafeteria? Company policies? Overtime rules? Ask me anything!"

Sophia smiled faintly. "Thank you, Sophia."

"Great! I’m in the after-sales department downstairs. Just call if you need anything!" With that, she dashed off.

Sophia watched her leave before settling back at her desk. After familiarizing herself with the workspace, she slipped into the restroom and dialed Nathan.

Meanwhile, Nathan stood stiffly in Ethan Blackwood’s office, sweating bullets.

His family wasn’t just ruthless—they were downright diabolical. His grandfather, the mastermind behind everything, had ordered him to take humiliating photos of Isabella Thornton.

And now, Ethan wanted those photos delivered directly to his wife and daughter.

Nathan had never felt more like a pawn.

Ethan then demanded his phone.

"Hand it over, and I’ll replace it with one ten times the price."

Nathan nearly choked.

Why did Ethan want his old phone? Reluctantly, he surrendered it—only to realize Ethan was scrolling through Sophia’s sparse social media.

Her posts were few:

A snapshot of Lilly, captioned: "My little girl is finally stable. My heart can rest."

A photo of the Chase Office building: "New job. New beginnings. This view lifts my spirit."

A recent update: "Watching karma bite back? Best mood ever. Cue evil laugh." Below it—Isabella’s狼狈 photos.

Beneath Sophia’s composed exterior hid a mischievous streak.

Yet Ethan saw something else: loneliness.

She wrapped herself in layers, trusting no one.

The realization darkened his expression.

Nathan panicked. Did I mess up by adding her?

"Fourth Master, I—I can fix this!" he blurted. "My cousin works at her company. I’ll have her assist Sophia—consider it my apology!"

Ethan arched a brow. Apology? He’d said nothing about fault.

But if Nathan insisted…

"Good," Ethan replied.

Nathan immediately called Sophia Carter, instructing her to help Sophia Montgomery.

Just as he finished, his phone rang—Sophia’s call.

Nathan nearly fainted.

He offered the phone to Ethan like a sacred relic. "Fourth Master… it’s Madam."

Ethan pushed it back. "You answer."

Nathan: "…"

Why me?!
