Chapter 603

The psychologist fell silent for a moment, then turned to look through the glass window.

Vivian Bennett sat motionless, like a lifeless statue.

He sighed.

"Her mental fortitude was originally stronger than most people's. That's why, after suffering a devastating blow, it's even harder for her to find her way out."

"She has trapped herself in a corner, believing everything has lost its meaning, that living is nothing but torment."

"What we need to do now is to find a reason for her to keep living."

Sophia Miller nodded, her eyes reddening.

"We all want to save her, to surround her with care and warmth."

"But our love can't reach her."

"The man she loved, Liam Sullivan... did such a thing."

"If even love can't warm a heart, what else can ignite it?"

The psychologist's gaze was steady.

"If love doesn't work, use hate."

"Love and hate are two sides of the same coin. After an extreme love collapses, hatred becomes the most powerful survival drive."

"As long as we can stir her hatred, she will live for the sake of revenge."

Sophia was stunned.

"Hate?"

Her voice trembled.

"What do you mean?"

"Ms. Bennett completely lost her will to live because she lost her child."

"The child is the breakthrough point."

"I have a method that will definitely affect her."

"Take her back to the place where she had the miscarriage."

"Let the searing scene, the agonizing memory, stimulate her again."

"That kind of impact is enough to jolt her out of her closed-off state."

Sophia drew a sharp breath.

This method was too extreme.

To make a woman who has given up on life return to the scene of her deepest despair, to experience that heart-rending pain again.

But...

She remained silent for a long time before speaking hoarsely.

"It's too cruel."

"For a mother who has lost a child, that is a wound that never heals."

"To hurt her again... I can't do it."

"Cruelty is what will make her fully wake up."

The psychologist's tone was calm yet firm.

"She will realize she must live, she must make the person responsible for her child's death pay."

"This method is negative, but at least it will keep her alive."

"As long as she is alive, you will have the chance to guide her back towards the light."

"Please consider it carefully."

Sophia was indeed hesitant.

After discussing it with Oliver Winston and the others, they all felt the method was too radical.

Perhaps they should wait until they found Liam Sullivan, to see if he had any way to salvage the situation.

But what happened that afternoon changed everyone's mind.

Sophia and Grace Harper took turns watching over Vivian. There were inevitably moments of oversight.

At some point, Vivian had pulled out the IV needle from the back of her hand.

She hid the tubing under the blanket, letting the fluid continue to drip, so nothing seemed amiss on the surface.

It wasn't until a doctor checked on her and lifted the blanket that they discovered the back of her hand was already badly bruised.

When Oliver and the others arrived, cold sweat broke out on their backs.

Vivian had already begun resisting treatment in a concealed way.

The next step, she might do something even more drastic.

Although she had shut herself off, her intelligence was undiminished.

If she truly wanted to end her life, she wouldn't be as easily detected as an ordinary patient.

No one could watch her twenty-four hours a day.

Oliver clenched his fist.

"Taking a risk is better than waiting for Liam to return... only to find her body."

That night, an ambulance left the hospital.

Oliver had cordoned off the roads near the footbridge in advance.

Coincidentally, a heavy rain began to fall from the night sky.

The downpour was torrential, the scene eerily similar to that night.

For a moment, it was hard to tell if it was memory or reality.

He had arranged for the strongest medical team to accompany them, in case of emergencies.

But looking at Vivian's wooden expression in the wheelchair, a strong sense of unease still rose in his heart.

It felt as if he was committing a terrible sin.

But he was truly afraid.

Afraid Vivian would die silently, without a sound.

Afraid that when Liam returned, all that would be left was a cold body.
