Chapter 599

The doctor had never seen such a stubborn patient.

Even death held no fear for her.

He could only shake his head and sigh, roughly understanding the woman's heart-wrenching grief after losing her child.

But time waited for no one. The surgery had to proceed immediately.

"You must get her to sign the consent form, or she will die. We can't delay any longer," the doctor shouted at Sophia Miller.

Sophia was completely out of options.

Steeling her heart, she grabbed Vivian Bennett's finger and looked at the doctor with grim determination. "A fingerprint will do, right? She consents. Let's do it!"

Even if Vivian hated her for it, she would accept it.

At least Vivian would still be alive.

As long as she was alive, there was still hope.

She tightly gripped Vivian's finger, pressed it into the inkpad, and then onto the consent form.

"No... I don't consent..." Vivian screamed hoarsely, desperately trying to pull her finger back. But she was no match for Sophia's strength and could only weep helplessly.

Why were they forcing her like this?

She would rather die. Did she not even have the right to choose death?

"Don't... don't take my baby... please, don't be so cruel... I don't consent... please, let it go, it's innocent..."

Her sorrowful plea hadn't even finished before a bright red fingerprint was stamped onto the consent form.

Seeing that glaring red mark, Vivian felt her heart turn to ashes. All her strength drained from her body in an instant.

In the end, she couldn't even hold onto this last bit of resolve.

It hurt so much.

This was worse than death.

The doctor collected the consent form and hurriedly wheeled her into the operating room.

The operating room doors slammed shut with a heavy thud, sealing off the entire outside world.

Sophia slumped down outside the operating room doors, utterly drained. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

She didn't know how much time had passed before Oliver Winston rushed over.

Sophia had only managed to reach him earlier.

Seeing him arrive alone, with no sign of Liam Sullivan beside him, Sophia broke down crying even harder.

"What happened? You said Vivian had a miscarriage?" Oliver had only gotten a garbled explanation over the phone and had sped over.

Sophia choked back sobs as she told him everything that had happened. Then she said gravely,

"What do we do? I think Vivian doesn't want to live anymore... It's too tragic. Who could endure all that? Being publicly abandoned, then losing her child... Why isn't Liam here? How can he be so heartless? He's been so cruel to her."

"Liam... we still haven't found him. You can't blame him entirely. He might be in trouble," Oliver said, his voice heavy with sorrow.

What should have been a joyous occasion had ended in such a disaster.

But deep down, he knew Liam would never abandon Vivian.

Everything that happened today was too bizarre. It was likely a conspiracy.

Yet, whether it was a conspiracy or not, Vivian had lost her baby. Given her proud, uncompromising nature, could she ever forgive Liam?

Sophia flared up with anger, tears still in her eyes as she demanded, "But he was at the hotel! Vivian and I checked the security footage—he chased after a woman who looked like the dead Luna Clark! He abandoned Vivian for that woman!"

"Do you even know what Vivian just went through? Where were all you men when she was being humiliated at the banquet? Where were you when she fell and lost her child? You men are all the same!"

Oliver's face flushed slightly under her tirade.

He felt unfairly blamed, but he understood Sophia's fury. With everything Vivian had endured, Liam's absence was infuriating to anyone.

But the name "Luna Clark" in Sophia's words sent a jolt through him.

A strange sense of unease washed over him.

Truthfully, he had no personal interest in this woman who was supposed to be dead. He only knew of her because Liam had been obsessively searching for her remains all these years.

That had piqued his curiosity about her origins—after all, a man like Liam wouldn't be so fixated on an ordinary woman.

Later, when Liam met Vivian, he gradually let the matter go.

But now, at the crucial moment of the engagement, this woman named Luna Clark suddenly reappeared, causing Liam to disappear.

It was all too coincidental.

Of course, he was more concerned about Liam's attitude toward that woman.

Liam clearly loved Vivian, yet he seemed deeply affected by this other woman.

That was troublesome.

Now Vivian was in crisis, and he had left because of that woman. Given Vivian's proud, all-or-nothing personality, could she ever forgive him?

Regardless, finding Liam was the top priority now.

And this woman who resembled Luna Clark was the only lead into the whole affair.

Oliver immediately made a call, instructing his people to investigate this woman's travel records with full force.
