Chapter 520

Isabella Sullivan's gun trembled violently in her hand.

It was like the final roar of a dying beast.

Vivian Bennett instinctively took half a step back.

But Liam Sullivan held her wrist firmly.

His grip was steady and strong.

"Don't be afraid," he said, his voice low.

When his gaze shifted to Isabella, it held only a frozen indifference.

"Leo is with me," Liam enunciated each word clearly. "Do you really think you still have the upper hand?"

Isabella's pupils contracted sharply.

The knuckles of her gun-holding hand turned white.

She stared at Liam, her breathing ragged.

After a long moment, she forced the words through gritted teeth. "Bring Leo to me, and I'll let you go."

Liam let out a cold laugh.

"You think you can threaten me with a single gun?" His eyes were sharp as blades. "However, I can let you see your son."

He retrieved a spare phone from his suit's inner pocket.

He gave a brief order.

Ten minutes later.

Two bodyguards in black led a thin, small boy into the warehouse.

The boy wore a clean blue hoodie.

His face was a bit pale, but his eyes were clear.

"Leo!" Isabella cried out, her voice breaking.

She rushed forward without a care, nearly dropping the gun.

She wrapped her arms tightly around her son.

Her hands trembled as she stroked his cheeks.

"Did they hurt you? Did they hit you? Tell Mommy, Mommy will protect you."

Her voice was filled with urgency and heartache.

Anyone could hear the profound maternal love in it.

Leo shook his head.

"Mommy, I'm fine," he said softly. "Uncle Liam hired the best doctors to take care of me. Someone was with me twenty-four hours a day. Grandpa also visited me often."

He took Isabella's hand.

His eyes held a plea.

"Mommy, you've already done many wrong things. Please don't keep making mistakes. Even if you feel hatred, you can't lose sight of right and wrong."

Isabella's hands instantly turned ice-cold.

She looked at her son in disbelief.

"Leo, how can you not understand?" Her voice trembled. "He brought you back just to threaten me! That whole family are beasts! If it weren't for them, how could my life be so miserable?"

Vivian shuddered hearing this.

The Sullivan family had adopted Isabella, given her a life of luxury, and paid for her education.

And in the end, they were called "beasts."

"Isabella." Vivian took a step forward, her voice icy. "Only a beast would call others beasts. Liam has spared you again and again. He has never wronged you. If that makes him a beast, then you are worse than a beast."

Liam glanced at her.

A flicker of surprise passed through his eyes.

It quickly melted into a warm tenderness.

Isabella's face turned ashen.

Her teeth ground together audibly.

"I won't let you go," she said, word by word, her eyes wild. "Not a single one of you!"

Leo watched his mother's stubborn, deluded expression.

Tears silently streamed down his face.

He turned to look at Liam.

Though they shared no blood relation.

He knew this uncle had never treated him poorly.

Hearing about the things his mother had done.

Leo felt nothing but overwhelming guilt.

His mother had poured all her love into him.

But she had poured all her hatred onto others.

It all seemed to have started because of him.

"Mommy." Leo knelt down, his voice choked with sobs. "Let's go, let's leave this place. Please stop bothering the Sullivan family, okay?"

He lifted his small face, streaked with tears.

His eyes were full of entreaty.
