Chapter 499
An unknown emptiness made her heart flutter with panic.
She crouched down, wrapping her arms around herself.
Her slender shoulders trembled slightly.
It took a while before she suppressed the low feeling in her heart.
Vivian Bennett did not return to the banquet hall.
She walked to the rest area and sank into a sofa.
Her fingertips pressed against her throbbing temples.
Her mind was a chaotic mess.
She vaguely felt something was wrong, but couldn't grasp any clues.
One thing was very clear to her.
Liam Sullivan's hurtful words were deliberately meant to upset her.
"Very angry, aren't you?"
A soft voice suddenly spoke.
Vivian lifted her long lashes.
Isabella Sullivan had sat down beside her at some point.
She pressed her lips together and did not respond.
"My brother would rather have an escort than you." Isabella handed her a tissue. "I'd be heartbroken too."
Vivian did not take it.
She wiped the remaining tears from the corner of her eye, a cold smile forming on her lips.
"Thank you for your concern, Miss Sullivan." She said lightly. "But I'm not the only one feeling heartbroken, am I?"
This woman appeared innocent, but had once set dogs on her.
Vivian had no fondness for her.
"Miss Bennett, you almost succeeded." Isabella chuckled lightly. "It's a pity you lacked self-respect and lost to an escort."
Vivian raised an eyebrow mockingly.
"You have self-respect. You're by his side every day. How did that escort get pregnant then?"
"He is my brother. I only see him as family."
"Really?" Vivian stared at her intently.
Isabella's expression changed. She stood up abruptly.
"I was just trying to comfort you out of kindness."
"Here to watch the show, aren't you?" Vivian was merciless. "I got dumped. You must be thrilled."
Isabella turned and left in anger.
Vivian watched her retreating back, the coldness on her lips not fading.
Stepping out of the hotel, Isabella suddenly smiled.
As long as it wasn't Vivian.
An escort would be easy to deal with.
The banquet ended.
Liam Sullivan took Crystal Evans home.
The car stopped downstairs. He leaned over and pulled her into his embrace.
The streetlight cast their intimate shadows.
"See you tomorrow." He said in a low voice. "I'll be away on a business trip for two days. Take care of yourself."
Crystal giggled and blew him a kiss. "I know."
He didn't drive away until she entered the building entrance.
Crystal hummed a tune as she went upstairs.
The new apartment was a studio Liam bought for her.
As she stepped out of the elevator, a chill ran down her spine.
It felt like eyes were watching her from the shadows.
She turned around sharply. The hallway was empty.
She hurriedly opened the door and went inside.
After her shower, she came out wrapped in a bathrobe.
The light above her head suddenly went out.
Darkness swallowed everything.
In the silence, light footsteps approached.
Crystal was about to scream.
A large hand covered her mouth.
The pungent smell from a handkerchief flooded her nostrils.
She struggled, her consciousness gradually fading...
