Chapter 382
Vivian Bennett stared into his aged eyes.
Wrinkles surrounded them.
Yet within their depths lay an unfathomable meaning.
This meal was clearly not a simple father-daughter reunion.
She set down her fork and knife.
"Just say it directly. Why did you really call me back today?"
William White let out a short laugh.
His hands rubbed repeatedly over his knees.
The words he needed to say next seemed difficult to voice.
"Since you asked, I won't beat around the bush..."
...
In the kitchen, Linda White suddenly heard a shattering sound from the living room.
"What was that?" She turned to ask the servant.
The servant listened carefully. "It sounded like a cup breaking..."
Linda's expression changed.
She threw down the plate in her hands and ran out.
Before even reaching the living room, she heard fierce arguing.
"Don't even think about asking me to help Brandon White! As long as he exists, I am your sworn enemy!"
"Get out! Get out right now!"
"Fine, I'm leaving! William White, remember this! This is the last time I will ever step into the White family home!"
When Linda rushed into the living room.
Vivian was grabbing her handbag and storming out the door.
A tea stain spread across the carpet.
Shattered cup fragments were scattered near the corner.
The tea leaves Vivian brought had been kicked over onto the floor.
"Why did you argue with her again? Couldn't you just talk properly?" Linda complained.
William collapsed onto the sofa.
His face was pale.
He muttered softly, "I couldn't... I still can't face her..."
Vivian stumbled into her car.
Her trembling hands gripped the steering wheel.
Tears instantly burst forth.
Suppressed sorrow washed over her.
Why was it always like this?
Was wanting familial affection also a mistake?
William's eyes had only ever held a place for his son.
She had long known her father favored sons over daughters.
But she never expected it to be so absolute.
This time, having Linda call her back for the New Year.
It was simply because of her relationship with Liam Sullivan.
They wanted to use her to climb up to the Sullivan family.
To pave the way for Brandon.
Who cared about her situation?
She had naively believed her father was getting older.
That he had finally regretted his actions after the surgery.
That he wanted to mend their father-daughter relationship.
Reality had slapped her hard across the face.
William had never changed.
He was always using her.
She had been presumptuous.
She had longed for a father's love that never truly existed.
