Chapter 371
The first light of dawn filtered through the windows.
Vivian Bennett awoke slowly.
The space beside her in the bed was already empty.
Her fingertips brushed against the pillow, still warm.
Only then was she certain last night had not been a dream.
Liam Sullivan's scent still lingered in the air.
But he was gone.
She pushed herself up to sit.
She squeezed toothpaste onto her brush with her clumsy left hand.
The mirror reflected the scabbed wound on her face.
The doctor had warned her to keep the injury dry.
She puffed her cheeks in frustration.
She made a funny face at her reflection.
A week later, the day to remove the stitches finally arrived.
Grace Harper somehow found out.
She rushed over in a flurry.
The moment she saw the wound on Vivian's face, her eyes welled up.
"How did you get hurt so badly?" Grace's voice trembled.
Vivian forced a light laugh. "It's fine now. Really."
Grace's expression suddenly turned serious. "Where is Liam Sullivan? Why did he hide this from me?"
"I asked him not to tell you," Vivian explained softly. "I didn't want you to worry."
Grace looked deeply concerned. "Tell me the truth. Are you unhappy with him?"
Vivian linked her arm through Grace's. "He's been personally taking care of me all week. Please don't worry."
Grace seemed slightly reassured.
She held Vivian's hand. "Come stay with me for a few days once you're healed."
"Okay," Vivian agreed with a smile. "I'll definitely come stay with you."
After seeing her cousin out, the Sullivan Family Estate suddenly descended into chaos.
Isabella Sullivan went for a walk in the garden after work.
An unexpected incident occurred.
Albert Sullivan's white dog suddenly went mad.
It lunged at her and began biting.
Servants rushed over at the sounds.
They were frozen in horror by the scene.
Albert Sullivan hurried forward to intervene.
The dog even bit its own master.
Patriarch Sullivan made a swift decision.
He ordered the mad dog to be put down.
Isabella lay collapsed on the ground, her face covered in blood.
She stared blankly into space.
Albert's arms were covered in deep wounds.
Blood soaked through his sleeves.
The wail of an ambulance shattered the estate's peace.
Eleanor Sullivan spoke to Liam with a fearful sigh. "A dog we raised for six years just went mad. It bit Vivian first, and now this…"
An uneasy atmosphere filled the estate.
Even though the mad dog had been dealt with, fear continued to spread through everyone's hearts.
