Chapter 302
Vivian Bennett cursed Liam Sullivan a thousand times in her heart.
She stubbornly refused to acknowledge him.
She remembered tossing and turning all night because of his words.
She had rushed to find him before dawn this morning.
Yet he had vanished without a trace.
This frustration choked her with nowhere to go.
"What's wrong?" Liam's voice came from behind as he moved closer.
He braced his arms on either side of her, tilting his head to study her.
His intimate posture made Vivian uncomfortable, and she shifted away.
His arms suddenly tightened, nearly pulling her into his embrace.
"Are you angry?" Liam asked with a slight smile, his eyes glinting mysteriously.
Vivian couldn't decipher the meaning behind his gaze.
"None of your business!" She glared at him fiercely.
Who was he? And who was she? What right did he have to ask?
At this close distance, they looked like a couple having a lovers' quarrel.
"Really don't want me to care?" Liam pressed closer.
His heartbeat vibrated through his clothes against her back.
Vivian pressed her lips together and stayed silent, pretending not to hear.
She hadn't yet realized that longing had already taken root.
She was unaware of the emotions wildly growing within her.
"I just don't want you to care!" Vivian suppressed her anger.
A woman saying one thing while meaning another was no myth.
Liam suddenly released her.
He lightly brushed his sleeves and stepped back, watching her with an amused smile.
Vivian's eyes reddened with fury.
Her displeasure was written all over her face, yet he acted completely oblivious.
It was utterly exasperating. She felt her energy drain away.
"If you don't want me to care, then I'll leave." Liam spoke while observing her reaction.
Vivian turned away angrily, biting her lip as she cursed him inwardly.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him actually start to walk away.
Blood rushed to her head. She acted on impulse.
Liam turned and looked back calmly.
To her own dismay, she found herself grabbing his sleeve.
Her cheeks burned with embarrassment. She wished she could disappear into the ground.
"Wasn't it 'none of my business'?" Liam's lips curved into a smug smile that stung her heart.
"Jerk! You're such a jerk!" Vivian cried out, pounding his chest with her fists.
He knew she was speaking in anger, yet he deliberately provoked her.
The fury she had suppressed all day finally exploded.
"You drank so much last night!"
"You vanished without a word this morning!"
"You didn't answer your phone!"
"Do you have any idea how worried I was?"
She hammered his shoulders fiercely.
All the words she had held back all day came pouring out.
Liam stood perfectly still, letting her vent.
Finally, Vivian exhausted herself.
She stood there disheveled, her eyes red and swollen.
Once those suppressed emotions were released, they could never be taken back.
Liam grasped her wrists.
The warmth of his touch went straight to her heart.
Vivian glared at him resentfully.
His amused, unbothered expression made her want to scream.
She had lost all dignity in her hysterical outburst.
He remained completely composed.
She hated that look on his face.
"You said you were worried about me?" Liam seized on the key point cunningly, his gaze intense.
Vivian felt weak all over.
Her legs trembled, barely able to support her.
Was love faith or just passing scenery?
Liam had easily disturbed her tranquil heart.
Only when she saw he was safe did she realize she could care so much.
All this time, she had been denying her true feelings.
Vivian looked at him silently.
All her loss of control and anger lay exposed under his deep gaze.
