Chapter 254

Liam had promised to take her out this weekend.

But he ended up having to work overtime.

He called around four in the afternoon, sounding rushed. "Something came up tonight. Our date will have to be postponed."

Vivian pressed her lips together. "Just focus on your work. I can handle dinner by myself."

"Don't you want to see me?" His voice was soft yet left no room for argument.

She really didn't.

Their relationship was complicated. Being seen together would only cause trouble.

But she knew she couldn't outright refuse him.

"It's not that..." she said quietly.

"Then wait for my call." He ended the conversation decisively.

Vivian put down her phone, feeling irritated.

She thought working overtime would help her avoid this situation. She had been naive.

He had no intention of letting her off the hook.

"Vivian, want to go shopping after work?" Emily Davis leaned over to invite her.

Vivian's expression tightened slightly. "I already have plans tonight."

"With who?" Emily's eyes lit up. "Zachary Hudson?"

"Not him." Vivian quickly denied.

"Then who?" Emily pressed relentlessly.

Vivian was at a loss for words.

She couldn't possibly say she had plans with the CEO, Liam Sullivan.

"Are you hiding a new boyfriend from Mr. Hudson?" Emily lowered her voice.

"Zachary and I aren't in that kind of relationship," Vivian clarified urgently.

Emily immediately seized the key point. "So there really is a new boyfriend?"

Vivian had no response.

The workday ended, and colleagues gradually left.

Her phone rang again. It was Ryan Johnson.

"Miss Bennett, the CEO's meeting has been extended. You might need to wait a bit longer."

"Okay."

"You can wait in the office, or go to the café across the street," Ryan added.

Vivian's heart tightened.

Some colleagues were still in the office. It would be disastrous if they saw her.

"I'll wait at the café," she immediately decided.

She gathered her things and quickly left the company.
