Chapter 24
Vivian Bennett was speaking animatedly.
A cold, authoritative voice abruptly cut her off. "What?"
She froze instantly.
Her mind went completely blank.
That voice...
Why did it sound so familiar?
It sounded exactly like the CEO, Liam Sullivan.
The next second.
Assistant Ryan's respectful voice came through the receiver. "Boss, we've found the information."
Vivian's hand trembled.
Her phone nearly slipped from her grasp.
She forced herself to remain calm.
Thinking quickly, she said, "I think you have the wrong number? I'm quite busy right now..."
Playing dumb was her only option.
He hadn't identified himself when he called.
She could easily claim she didn't know who it was.
"Stop right there!"
Liam's cold voice commanded.
Vivian's heart skipped a beat.
Her fingertips trembled slightly.
"Why didn't you report to headquarters?" His voice carried clear displeasure.
Vivian struggled to explain. "I already reported..."
She just hadn't gone to the CEO's office.
"Where are you?" Liam's tone turned icy.
How dare this woman lie to his face?
Vivian answered with difficulty. "I've joined the Public Relations Department."
Liam's eyes darkened. "Who gave you permission to join Public Relations?"
They had agreed she would become his secretary.
"The Public Relations Department hired me first." Vivian quickly fabricated an excuse.
"..."
"I need to get back to work now."
Before he could speak again.
She quickly ended the call.
"Vivian Bennett!"
Hannah Green suddenly appeared before her.
Her face was terrifyingly dark. "Company policy prohibits personal calls during work hours. Are you unaware of this?"
Vivian immediately lowered her head in apology. "I'm sorry. I'll be more careful next time."
She thought to herself: Does answering the big boss's call count as personal business?
"Since it's your first offense, I'll let it slide this time." Hannah said coldly. "Copy the employee handbook one thousand times tonight!"
Vivian was shocked. "One thousand times?"
Hannah warned sharply. "The next offense will result in direct salary deduction!"
"..."
Vivian was speechless.
She had long heard about Sullivan Group's strict management.
Now she finally experienced it firsthand.
Was this extraordinary promotion a blessing or a curse?
Hannah shot her a fierce glare.
Then she turned and left.
Emily Davis quietly approached. "Are you okay?"
Vivian shook her head. "I'm fine."
After years in the workplace.
She had developed a thick skin.
This level of criticism was nothing.
"Be careful." Emily lowered her voice. "Deputy Manager Hannah is famously known as the old maid. She's particularly difficult to deal with."
Vivian was surprised. "Old maid?"
She completely couldn't tell.
The deputy manager of Public Relations should theoretically be very sociable.
How could she still be a virgin?
