Chapter 222
Zachary Hudson cleared his throat softly.
He watched Vivian Bennett remain completely unresponsive.
He decided to be direct. "Aren't you going to invite me up?"
Vivian froze for a moment.
Her refusal was absolute. "It's too late. It wouldn't be proper."
Zachary narrowed his peach-blossom eyes. "What wouldn't be proper?"
"I..." Vivian's lips trembled slightly as her mind raced.
Zachary leaned in closer. "What exactly wouldn't be proper?"
His heated breath washed over her face.
Tiny shivers broke out across Vivian's skin.
She watched his tall frame loom over her.
His thin lips were about to touch hers.
Vivian blurted out in panic, "My man is waiting for me at home."
"Man?"
Zachary's movement halted abruptly.
His handsome face instantly darkened.
"You have a man at home?"
"Yes!" Vivian nodded emphatically.
Even if she didn't, she had to say she did.
Letting Zachary in this late was asking for trouble.
Who knew what he had in mind?
"Who?" Zachary's voice was icy.
What man dared to touch his prey?
Vivian stared at him warily.
His murderous expression sent a chill through her heart.
"Liam Sullivan!"
The name escaped her lips before she could stop it.
Zachary's pupils contracted sharply.
He stared at her in disbelief. "Who did you say?"
Vivian took a deep breath.
The lie was already out. She had to commit to it.
"Mr. Hudson, to be honest, I'm Liam Sullivan's mistress."
She lowered her eyelids, her voice laced with feigned difficulty.
Calling herself his girlfriend would never be believable.
But the only person who could intimidate Zachary was Liam Sullivan.
She had no choice but to use the big boss's name.
She hoped it would make him back off.
"You..."
A dark undercurrent swirled in Zachary's peach-blossom eyes.
He stared at her intently, his expression unreadable.
He had personally witnessed Isabella Sullivan causing trouble for Vivian at the boutique.
She had even tried to hit her.
For Isabella to lose her composure like that, Vivian's relationship with Liam Sullivan couldn't be simple.
Damn it!
Zachary cursed inwardly.
It was rare for him to take an interest in a woman.
And she turned out to be Liam Sullivan's mistress.
He and Liam Sullivan were truly natural adversaries.
Even the women they fancied overlapped.
"Mr. Hudson, I won't waste any more of your time. I must be going..."
Seeing his expression grow increasingly grim, Vivian forced a smile.
She quickly pushed the car door open and got out.
"Does Liam Sullivan know you were with me?"
Zachary's cold voice came from inside the car.
Vivian stiffened, her face turning deathly pale.
Zachary let out a derisive snort. "Do you think he'd still want you?"
Vivian's heart clenched painfully.
Her hands unconsciously balled into tight fists.
She didn't look back.
She hurried into the residential complex.
